The five elements: a map of everything

Wood🪵Fire🔥Earth🌍Metal⚔️Water💧

Five elements. Five organ systems. Five emotions. Five seasons. Five flavours.

In TCM, everything maps back to these five — your body, your personality, your patterns of illness, and your relationship with the world.

1. Wood 木

-Organ: Liver & Gallbladder

-Season: Spring

-Emotion: Anger / Frustration

-Gift when balanced: Vision, creativity, the ability to plan and move forward

-Shadow when imbalanced: Rigidity, resentment, PMS, neck and shoulder tension

2. Fire 火

-Organ: Heart & Small intestine

-Season: Summer

-Emotion: Joy / Anxiety

-Gift when balanced: Warmth, connection, charisma, clarity of mind

-Shadow when imbalanced: Restlessness, insomnia, scattered thinking, inability to feel genuine joy

3. Earth 土

-Organ: Spleen & Stomach

-Season: Late summer / transitions between seasons

-Emotion: Worry / Overthinking

-Gift when balanced: Nurturing, stability, the ability to nourish self and others

-Shadow when imbalanced: Digestive issues, excessive worry, fatigue, needing too much reassurance

4. Metal 金

-Organ: Lung & Large intestine

-Season: Autumn

-Emotion: Grief / Letting go

-Gift when balanced: Clarity, discernment, the ability to release what no longer serves

-Shadow when imbalanced: Holding on too long, skin issues, respiratory weakness, perfectionism

5. Water 水

-Organ: Kidney & Bladder

-Season: Winter

-Emotion: Fear / Wisdom

-Gift when balanced: Deep reserves, willpower, the wisdom to rest and restore

-Shadow when imbalanced: Chronic fear, lower back pain, poor bone health, depletion

💡You're not just one element. But most people have a dominant one — the element that shows up most in their body patterns, emotional tendencies, and recurring symptoms.

Look at where your body speaks loudest. That's usually where your map begins.
